The Kornelius Cinema Blueprint
A comprehensive Home Cinema Design – The Kornelius Room Analysis Report tailored to your cinema room’s dimensions, listening position, and speaker sensitivity. Drawing inspiration from the precision and ingenuity of Roman engineering, our approach ensures an enhanced home cinema experience.
Room Layout
This virtual 3D (not to scale) maps out your cinema room positions, providing precise measurements for the placement of speakers relative to your reference seating position, or your. The output ensures the exact positioning of each speaker, both lower position and upper, in either metric or imperial units. The center of your speaker, known as the ‘acoustic axis,’ should ideally align with these dimensions. Height locations are also nominated.
Subwoofer Placement
Subwoofers are typically be placed at half or quarter points in room, as recommended by CEDIA’s RP22 standards, to minimize room modes and ensure consistent bass across all seating positions.
Height Speakers
For your height speakers, often called “Atmos” speakers after the predominate Dolby layout. These and pretty much every speaker should be positioned and then ‘steered’ tot he reference seating location. If your speakers have pivoting tweeters, aim towards that seat out point to cover the seating area.
Sound Pressure Level (SPL)
This Home Cinema Design section covers SPL indicating the power your amplifier needs to deliver those dynamics to the main seating area. Industry standards recommend a peak of 105 decibels for cinematic levels, though 100 decibels may suffice for media rooms or other areas where you don’t expect to turn it right up.
Acoustic Treatments Assuming your room has carpet and fabric underlay, adding acoustic panels is ideal to reduce reverberation and enhance comfort. Typically for the best results, a balanced approach with 33% absorption, 33% diffusion, and 33% reflective surfaces is generally recommended for optimal acoustics. The output will calculate an approximate reverberation time (RT60). Ideally you would like to get this down to 0.4 seconds, where the energy 60dB is reduced within 0.4seconds which helps the human brain perceive better immersive audio.
Room Modes
These green sound waves represent room modes and frequency interactions. Ideally, you should avoid sitting on boundary positions and depressions. Advanced modelling in our custom designs can help mitigate these issues. If you notice dips at certain low frequencies audibly, or via your room correction software, it might indicate a null position that electronic room correction generally cannot fix. Place yourself in another location, or place your subwoofers in other locations gaining a better sound
Screen Size
The final Home Cinema Design section provides recommended screen dimensions for both 16:9 and 2.35:1 aspect ratios, based on your viewing distance. It includes industry standards for the closest and furthest viewing distances.
When you purchase the Kornelius, select either metric or imperial. You will them be provided with a unique code and be asked to enter your room dimensions.
Its possible to enter in your LCR (Left Center Right) speaker sensitivity. Check the specifications of your selected speaker otherwise we have an average value. The Kalculator will then create a custom report back on your email shortly!
