Konfigurator guide
See your cinema in your room, before it exists.
Augmented reality uses your phone or tablet camera to place your Konfigurator design in the room around you. It's free, it takes about a minute, and it's the closest you can get to standing in your cinema before it's built.
01
Build it
Design your cinema in Konfigurator on your computer, tablet or phone.
02
Send it to your phone
Scan the QR code, or tap View in your space if you're already on your phone.
03
Stand inside it
Point your camera at the floor and place the room around you at full size.
What is augmented reality?
Augmented reality, or AR, blends a 3D model with the live view from your camera. Your real room stays on screen and the cinema appears inside it, fixed to the floor as you move around.
Unlike a video or a render, you control the view. Walk to where the front row will be, turn around, crouch to seat height or stand at the doorway. The model stays in place, so you get a real sense of size and distance.
What you need
- An iPhone or iPad using Safari
- An AR-capable Android phone or tablet using Chrome
- A room with clear floor space and good light
- A Konfigurator design, free to build with no account
How to do it
01
Finish your design
Set up your room, seats, screen and speakers in Konfigurator. AR works best once the models have finished loading.
02
Open augmented reality
Tap the AR button in the planner, or View in Augmented Reality at the Review step. On a computer, scan the QR code with your phone to open the same room there.
03
Choose a scale
Pick 1:1 to walk through the cinema at full size, or 1:10 or 1:20 to see it as a model on a table.
04
Prepare and view
Tap Prepare AR preview, then View in your space. The files are prepared on your device.
05
Find the floor
Move your phone slowly in a small circle so it can find the floor. Then place the room.
06
Walk around
Move through the space. Pinch or drag to reposition the model if it lands in the wrong spot.
Full size or tabletop?
1:1, full size
Best in the room you're planning. Stand where the seats will be and get a feel for screen size, row spacing and how the room will feel around you.
1:10 or 1:20, tabletop
Best for showing a partner, architect or builder. The whole cinema sits on a table so you can walk around it and look in from every side.
Tips for a better view
- Turn the lights on. AR needs to see texture on the floor, so very dark or shiny floors can make it harder.
- Clear a path. You'll be looking at your screen while you walk.
- Start where the screen will go, then walk back towards the seats.
- If the model drifts, close AR, move the phone slowly over the floor and place it again.
AR is a visual preview to help you understand the space. It isn't a measurement tool or an installation set-out, and speaker grilles and lighting effects aren't included in the AR model. When dimensions matter, talk to us about a properly scoped design. Begin a Conversation
Questions
Does augmented reality cost anything?
No. Augmented reality is part of the free Konfigurator. You don't need an account or Konfigurator PRO to use it.
Do I need to install an app?
No. It opens from your browser using Safari on iPhone and iPad, or Chrome on AR-capable Android phones and tablets.
Why won't AR open on my computer?
AR needs a camera and motion sensors, so it runs on phones and tablets. On a computer, Konfigurator shows a QR code so you can open the same room on your phone.
Is the AR model accurate enough to build from?
No. It's a visual preview to help you understand size and space. Building and installation need a properly scoped design and site measurements.
