MP950 On-Wall Speaker
M&K Sound MP950 On-Wall Speaker
The M&K Sound MP950 is an on-wall variant of the acclaimed 950 Series, using the same Phase Focused crossover and proprietary professional tweeter as the LCR950 — but tuned to compensate for wall boundary effect. Part of the THX Select2 certified 950 system.
Overview
The M&K Sound MP950 brings the acoustic foundation of the studio-proven 950 Series to on-wall installations. Using the same Phase Focused crossover network as the LCR950, the MP950 achieves time and phase alignment between its twin 5.25-inch polypropylene woofers and 1-inch soft fabric dome tweeter — a defining characteristic of M&K Sound's professional monitor heritage. Crucially, the crossover incorporates a boundary compensation network specifically tuned to correct for the bass boost introduced when a speaker is mounted flush against or close to a room boundary. This allows the MP950 to deliver the same tonal accuracy in an on-wall installation that the LCR950 achieves in a free-standing or behind-screen context. THX Select2 certification confirms its suitability as part of a reference-calibre home cinema system, and the speaker is available in both black satin and white satin finishes to suit different interior aesthetics. With a recommended amplifier power range of 25–200W and a 4 Ω impedance, the MP950 is straightforward to drive with high-quality home cinema amplification.
Pros & Cons
Strengths
- Phase Focused crossover delivers the time-alignment accuracy of the studio-derived LCR950 in a wall-mount form factor
- Boundary compensation network corrects wall-proximity bass lift for neutral tonal balance
- THX Select2 certification confirms system-level performance validation
- Dual 5.25" woofer array provides strong bass output relative to the speaker's compact dimensions
- Available in two finishes for integration with a range of interior schemes
Limitations
- Bass response starts at 80 Hz (±3dB) — requires subwoofer support for full-range cinema playback
- 90 dB sensitivity is moderate; amplifier selection should prioritise current delivery into 4 Ω
- Not designed for behind-screen use — the boundary compensation is tuned for wall-adjacent mounting

Integrating the M&K Sound MP950 in On-Wall Cinema Systems
At Kolosseum, the MP950 is a refined choice for premium on-wall cinema installations where the speakers will remain visible as part of the room design rather than hidden behind a screen. The boundary compensation crossover means we can mount the MP950 directly against the wall without the tonal corruption that typically affects wall-mounted speakers — a significant advantage over generic on-wall alternatives.
Room Requirements
The MP950 is suited to rooms from approximately 3m to 7m in length when used as a main screen channel speaker. Bass management should be configured to cross over to dedicated subwoofers at or above 80 Hz. The speaker should be positioned at ear height or slightly above for the primary listening position.
Recommended Screen Pairing
The MP950 is an on-wall speaker and is not designed for behind-screen use. In systems where a projector and screen are used, the MP950 is appropriate where the screen is not acoustically transparent and the main speakers are positioned to the sides of the screen.
Acoustic Considerations
The boundary compensation crossover reduces bass reinforcement from the wall but does not address room modes or low-frequency build-up at the listening position. Full room correction and subwoofer integration with a DSP-capable processor is strongly recommended for the most accurate tonal balance.
Frequently Asked Questions About the M&K Sound MP950 On-Wall Speaker.
M&K Sound's Phase Focused crossover is engineered to align the time and phase response of the tweeter and woofer drivers so that both arrive at the listener's ears in phase across the crossover region. This results in smoother, more natural tonal integration between drivers compared to conventional crossover designs that optimise amplitude response only.
When a speaker is placed close to a wall boundary, bass frequencies are reinforced by the wall reflection, causing an uneven frequency response with elevated low-end energy. M&K Sound's boundary compensation network adjusts the crossover and equalization to counteract this effect, so the MP950 delivers the same neutral tonal balance as a free-standing speaker when mounted against a wall.
Yes. The MP950 carries THX Select2 certification, confirming it meets the performance and dynamic range standards defined by THX for Select2 home cinema systems. This includes compatibility with the THX Select2 reference level and room size requirements.
Yes. The MP950 is suitable for use across left, center, right, and surround channel positions. Its on-wall format and controlled dispersion make it particularly effective as a surround speaker on side walls. Using matched MP950 speakers across all positions ensures consistent timbre and response through the listening space.
