M8-C Center Screen Speaker
MAG Theatron M8-C Center Screen Speaker
M8-C is a compact center screen speaker that pairs with M8-LR for complete screen channel coverage. Rotatable horn coverage makes it highly adaptable to different installation geometries.
Overview
The MAG Theatron M8-C is a compact yet capable center channel speaker designed for rooms where the M12-C or M15-C would be over-specified or impractical to install. Its 8-inch woofer with a 2-inch voice coil and 1-inch titanium dome HF driver with a 1.75-inch voice coil deliver clean, controlled output across the critical speech range and well into the low frequencies. A key differentiator is the rotatable horn coverage: the dispersion pattern can be oriented from -30° to +60° horizontally with a fixed 50° vertical spread, allowing the M8-C to adapt to non-standard geometries where conventional screen mounting angles are constrained. VESA 100×100 mounting and 4×M5 side-point attachment give installers flexibility in mounting configuration. Despite its compact footprint — 335 × 480 × 160 mm and just 8 kg — the M8-C delivers 118.5 dB continuous SPL and 95.5 dB sensitivity, making it well suited to rooms of moderate size.
Pros & Cons
Strengths
- Rotatable horn allows adaptation to angled or constrained installation geometries
- Compact size and low weight simplify structural requirements behind perforated screens
- VESA 100×100 mounting compatibility enables wide choice of mounting hardware
- Titanium dome HF driver delivers clear, detailed high-frequency reproduction
- Matched acoustically with M8-LR for coherent three-channel screen imaging
Limitations
- Bass response starts at 75 Hz (±3dB), requiring subwoofer support more than the M12-C or M15-C
- Maximum SPL of 118.5 dB is adequate for moderate rooms but below the M12-C and M15-C for large spaces

Integrating the MAG Theatron M8-C in Compact Cinema Rooms
At Kolosseum, the M8-C is the preferred center channel solution in rooms where the full M12 or M15 array is over-scaled. Its rotatable horn is particularly useful when screen wall geometry, projector throws, or seat placement make standard mounting angles impractical. We use this flexibility to optimise horizontal coverage across the seating row without compromising the listening experience.
Room Requirements
The M8-C is well suited to rooms from approximately 3m to 7m in length. Given its crossover point to subwoofers is typically set at 80–100 Hz, subwoofer integration is essential for full-range cinema playback.
Recommended Screen Pairing
The M8-C operates behind acoustically transparent perforated screens. Its shallow 160 mm depth eases coordination with tight screen wall designs. Horn rotation should be set during installation to align coverage with the primary seating zone.
Acoustic Considerations
The rotatable horn should be oriented to place the primary listening area within the -30° to +60° horizontal sweep before final commissioning. Crossover alignment with the M8-LR and subwoofers should be set via DSP to maintain phase coherence across the screen.
Frequently Asked Questions About the MAG Theatron M8-C Center Screen Speaker.
The M8-C's high-frequency horn can be physically rotated during installation to orient the dispersion pattern between -30° and +60° horizontally. This allows the installer to aim the coverage zone at the seating area even when the speaker cannot be mounted at the ideal angle — particularly useful when the screen wall has limited depth or angled mounting points.
MAG Theatron specify the M8-C's usable bass response from 75 Hz (±3dB), so a subwoofer crossover between 80 Hz and 100 Hz is typical. Higher crossover points reduce driver excursion at high SPL levels and extend driver life.
The M8-C can be used as a standalone center channel speaker in systems using different LR main speakers, provided the tonal balance is addressed via DSP. For the most coherent three-channel imaging, it is best matched with M8-LR main speakers as part of the complete M8 screen array.
The M8-C supports VESA 100×100 wall mount brackets and has four M5 side-point attachment locations. Standard VESA-compatible mounting hardware can be used, and MAG Theatron may offer proprietary brackets — confirm with your distributor for specific installation kits.
