S6 Compact Wall Surround Speaker
MAG Theatron S6 Compact Wall Surround Speaker
MAG Theatron S6 compact on-wall surround speaker with SCCT horn technology. Its shallow depth enables in-wall niche installation while maintaining precise surround imaging across the listening area.
Overview
The MAG Theatron S6 is a wall-mounted surround speaker built around the same Surround Coverage Control Technology (SCCT) as the CS44, adapted for vertical side-wall mounting. A single 6-inch woofer with a 1.75-inch voice coil handles the low-to-mid frequencies, while a 0.75-inch titanium dome HF driver with a 1.5-inch voice coil manages the high end. The SCCT horn is tilted 15° downward and produces the same asymmetric coverage pattern as the CS44: -90° to +60° horizontally and -35° to +5° vertically. This directs surround energy toward seated listeners rather than firing straight into the room. At just 100 mm deep (without grill), the S6 is shallow enough for in-wall niche installation, and VESA 100×100 compatibility alongside 4×M5 side mount points give installers multiple attachment options. With 94 dB sensitivity and up to 115.5 dB continuous SPL from a 150W driver system, the S6 delivers convincing surround dynamics in small to medium cinema rooms. An 8 Ω version is available for installations requiring higher impedance loads.
Pros & Cons
Strengths
- SCCT horn technology delivers controlled, directional surround imaging from a wall-mount format
- Exceptionally shallow 100 mm depth allows in-wall niche integration without major structural work
- High 94 dB sensitivity and 115.5 dB SPL for its compact size
- Dual impedance options (4 Ω / 8 Ω) provide amplifier flexibility
- Shares acoustic design language with CS44 for consistent system-wide voicing
Limitations
- Bass starts at 90 Hz (±3dB) — subwoofer integration is required for full-range surround playback
- 6" driver does not match the output capability of larger dedicated surround speakers in very large rooms

Integrating the MAG Theatron S6 as a Wall Surround Speaker
At Kolosseum, the S6 is paired with the CS44 in MAG Theatron system builds where wall surrounds are preferred or required by the room geometry. The SCCT technology ensures that side-wall mounted surrounds direct useful energy toward the listening area rather than projecting horizontally across the room — a critical consideration for rooms with hard side walls or limited absorption.
Room Requirements
The S6 is suited to rooms from approximately 3m to 8m in length. Mounting height should be set to ensure the SCCT horn's 15° downward tilt points toward the head height of the listening position — typically 1.8m to 2.2m above the floor for standard listening chair heights.
Recommended Screen Pairing
As a surround speaker, the S6 does not have a direct screen-channel relationship but should be acoustically matched within the system via DSP level and EQ alignment. Consistent sensitivity matching with the screen channel speakers and subwoofers ensures seamless panning.
Acoustic Considerations
Side-wall surrounds benefit from local absorption behind the speaker to reduce early side-wall reflections. The SCCT coverage pattern minimises energy directed at the adjacent wall, but the rear wall of the mounting niche should be treated if an in-wall installation is used.
Frequently Asked Questions About the MAG Theatron S6 Compact Wall Surround Speaker.
The S6 is designed as an on-wall or in-niche speaker, not a true in-wall flush-mount unit. Its 100 mm depth allows it to fit into shallow wall niches cleanly. For a fully flush installation, a custom recess sized to the enclosure dimensions would need to be constructed.
Both versions use the same driver complements and produce comparable acoustic performance. The 4 Ω version draws more current for a given power level and may deliver slightly higher peak SPL with high-current amplifiers. The 8 Ω version is preferred in installations using multi-speaker amplifier zones where higher impedance loads are more suitable.
MAG Theatron recommend mounting the S6 at a height where the SCCT horn's 15° downward tilt directs the coverage toward seated listener ear height. This typically means the speaker face should be positioned approximately 1.8m to 2.2m above the finished floor level for standard seating arrangements.
Yes. The S6 is suitable for both conventional surround and surround back channel positions in Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Auro-3D, and IMAX Enhanced systems. For overhead height channels in the same system, the CS44 ceiling variant is recommended to share the same SCCT acoustic design.
